The Three Best Arm Toning Exercises

by Liz Langley

If you want to have lean, muscular arms, then, apart from a sensible diet, you need to have an arm toning routine.

It is very easy to injure yourself when lifting weights. It’s best not to use weights when you are alone and don’t think of doing so if you have an existing injury Only use weights that are well within your ability to lift and if in the slightest doubt seek the advise of a qualified professional.

Firstly The Bar Bell Bicep Curl

The classic arm toning exercise is the bar bell bicep curl. Like many exercises it looks quite straightforward but you must get it just right to achieve your goal. Before lifting the bar to your chest, your back must be straight, your feet planted shoulder width and your elbows tucked into your sides. You should bring the bar to a point just below your neck. Always lower the bar bell slowly and evenly and remember those elbows should not move in any direction.

The Alternate Dumb Bell Curl

The alternate dumb bell curl is the next arm toning exercise. The advantage of this exercise is that you can concentrate on one arm at a time. This is an exercise where heavier weights are often used but be aware that the heavier the weight the greater the risk of injury. Again make sure that your back is straight and your feet are shoulder width apart. In order to get a tight contraction you need to curl the weight firmly into your shoulder. You can do this one arm at a time or, with two weights, do alternative lifts. As ever, always lower the weights slowly, rotating them until they come to a rest by your sides.

And Thirdly Skull Crushers !

The last arm toning exercise that we cover is the weirdly named skull crusher. This exercise is used to tone up the triceps and will produce visible results quickly but should never be attempted alone as there is a fairly high risk of injury.

Lying chest up on a bench you raise the bar [bell] straight up then backwards, past your head, while ensuring that your palms are facing the ceiling. Move the weight slowly to the back as if you were going to lower it onto the floor behind your head, instead bring the bar back and repeat.

A combination of a healthy eating regime and the right exercises will have your arms toned, your entire body healthier and a new you that I think you will like.
