The Benefits of Stretching For Your Health and Fitness

by Brian

Are you having problem picking up things from the floor or reaching up high to get something off a shelf? Well that means you are not flexibile and you should consider stretching to improve your flexibility.

If you are having difficulty doing simple tasks like this, you need to learn how to stretch better. These tasks may be simple, but you take them for granted, until you find it hard doing them.

What Is Stretching?

Stretching is the act of straghtening parts of your body or your body as whole and stretching some or all of your limbs.

Streching? How Should I Do It?

* Regardless of what age you are, stretching can be done by all.

* With age, your degrees of flexibility vary and also too with frequency of practice. Stretching more allows you to lose less flexibility as you ago.

* Stretching can be incorporated into your daily life and should be done every day. It doesn’t require much of your time anyway.

* Stretching is important in preparation for a training routine or any vigorous exercise and is essential to any sport. It should be done first before anything else.

* The most common stretch done by athletes is the sit and reach, where you sit on the floor, legs together and pointing outwards and in front of them. You then bend and try and touch your toes with the tips of your fingers.

* 10 minutes is the best span of time for you to do you stretches and is enough oppurtuniy to move and flex your muscles. Harder muscle movements are easier to do as you are more prepared for them.

How Does Stretching Benefit Me?

* Increases Your Movement Capability - The more you do your exercises, the more you muscles and tendon lengths increase. Your range of movement follows suit with this, allowing the limbs and joints to move around far before an injury can take place.

* Perform More Skills - Jumping higher in basketball or turning faster in football are things that you will better be able to do with a wider range of movement, allowing for a more active way of life.

* Injury Prevention - Recovering faster and better if you get injured, reducing the likelihood of pulling a muscle or tearing and tendon can be done when muscles and joints are more flexible.

* Relaxes Muscles - Your muscles are much more relaxed in general if you regularly stretch them out.

* Have More Energy - You are more driven and energized if you feel that your body is capable of doing alot more things physically.

Stretching doesn’t require much time and effort and can be integrated into your daily life after you’ve done it for a while. What’s more, it’s important on overall fitness and health.
