Meat Lasagna - Cooking Tips

I love cooking and eating lasagna. However, it can be tough and intimidating, but with the right cooking tips, you can make it delicious. Most tips that you’ve heard of before, I left out and only wanted to include tips that you probably haven’t seen before. With these tips you are guaranteed to make a delicious lasagna.

In my meat sauce, I try to combine a couple types of meat. Try beef, pork and turkey for the best flavor. The lasagna noodles can be dried, fresh, or the no boil variety. I prefer the no boil type because it tastes the best with a lasagna and won’t be soggy after the lasagna is baked.

This step involves buying the freshest ingredients you can find. Especially, with cheeses. With Parmesan cheese, I prefer the freshly grated type, for obvious reasons. With mozzarella cheese, you have to find the best and the freshest type of mozzarella. Just buy the best cheese and your lasagna will taste amazing. If you settle for cheap cheese, your lasagna will be bland.

Whatever you do, do not add liquid to your sauce. You want your sauce to be thick, especially if you add veggies to your sauce. Veggies will only add more water to your lasagna and then you won’t be able to cut out nice squares that stay together.

Cover your lasagna with aluminum foil while it bakes. If not, it will burn on top. Leave it covered for most of the baking time, only uncovering it during the last 15-20 minutes of baking.

Be sure to put a little sauce on the bottom so the noodles won’t stick. You can also spray it with pam if you choose to.

Drain meat VERY well to keep lasagna from being runny.

Eggs are a great tip and you use eggs for binder. Try three eggs with meat, spaghetti sauce, cream cheese, cottage or ricotta cheese, mozzarella, and noodles.

There are hundreds of lasagna tips on the internet, but these are the most important lasagna tips, I believe. I tried to only include the best and most effective tips for your lasagna. You can also make vegetarian lasagna, but I absolutely love Meat Lasagna and that’s all I usually make. Good luck with your lasagna!

Try this tasty meat lasagna recipe.

Healthy Snacks and Appetizers for the Holidays and Everyday

When it comes to snacking, you don’t need to miss out just because you’re eating healthy. Eating all those sugary, fat loaded foods will make you feel awful anyway. Instead, you can enjoy lots of delicious snacks and appetizers that are healthy. Serve some at your next get together and see how fast they get eaten!

One easy option that does your body good is salsa. Make a nice chunky salsa with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and peaches. It is extremely colorful and easy to make. Serve it up in a bowl with toasted tortillas or chips as a snack. For an appetizer, just put a small spoon of salsa on a chip and set the chip on a platter. Repeat until the platter is full. No one will be able to resist this colorful dish!

If you are talented with your food preparation, make some California rolls. Everyone loves fresh crab. You can pick up nori, the dried seaweed used to roll up the sushi at your local Asian store. This delicious type of sushi is a great snack or even a light lunch. Make some for a party and let your guests ooh and ahh over your culinary skills.

Bruschetta is a wonderful snack. Slices of toasted French or Italian bread topped with fresh tomatoes, herbs and maybe some cheese is wonderful with a beverage. Likewise you can easily make a bunch and serve them as an appetizer at any parties you plan. If you have a healthy pizza recipe you enjoy for lunch or dinner, simply cut it up into bite size pieces for an impromptu get together.

If you like salad, you’re in luck. Make up a healthy green salad. Make sure you chop all the pieces into small, easy to handle bits. Toss it with the salad dressing. This is a fabulous meal or snack at any time of the day. Need some quick appetizers? Take several lettuce leaves. Spoon some salad into each leaf and wrap it up. Fasten it with a toothpick and voila! Healthy appetizers full of flavor and goodness!

If you like to snack on finger foods, snack time is simple. Pour out a can of olives. Slice up some cheese. Take out the box of cherry tomatoes you bought at the store. Put them on a plate and you can pick and choose what flavor you want next. To make this snack party friendly, try putting these ingredients on small skewers. This makes noshing portable and easy.

When you’re deciding on holiday appetizers you can do these same kinds of recipes. Give everyone a break from all the high calorie, sugary foods. Their stomachs will thank you! These kinds of appetizers look great on the table and taste wonderful. Some healthy choices will help your guests battle that bloated “after the holiday” feeling.

These snacks take only minutes to make. They are good for you and cause you less stress. They give your body what it needs to be healthy and happy. Try some of these great snacks and appetizers and see how you feel afterwards.

Amazing Smoothie Recipes Review - Making It Easy to Be Healthy

I had decided to lose weight, but I wanted to make sure I was doing this in a healthy way, which is why I thought smoothies would be a great choice. I quickly found the Amazing Smoothie Recipes eBook which not only gave me great recipes, it also told me about the numerous health benefits of smoothies - which I was really interested in learning.

When I bought the eBook it was very easy to download ” which was great because I couldn’t wait to check it out, alongside the 4 bonus eBooks that came with it! It only cost $9.95 and it was given in PDF format which helped me to print it out and put it into a ring binder, though I also saved a copy of all the eBooks on my computer for safe-keeping.

Some of the great things this eBook has taught me include just why it’s so important to have 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day. Because most of us lead such busy lives, we often get as little as three - but the recipes in this eBook provide a helpful way around this. You’ll even get a chart so you can tick off how many portions of fruit you eat every day.

There were some really interesting facts in this eBook about why smoothies are so nutritionally valuable. For example, I learned that watermelons include an important cancer-fighting ingredient called lycopene. There are also a huge number of other antioxidants found in the recipes here, important for protecting your health.

I also recommend the recipe on page 43 for the Pink Banana Smoothie, or the Apple Passion on page 37. And the good news is that they don’t require any fancy ingredients, just fruits stocked in your local supermarket. This is even great for anyone going on a raw diet ” all it takes is a minute to whizz your food in the blender!

The one factor I’d like to point out about this eBook is that all the measurements for liquids are provided in ml instead of in cups. But this wasnt too much of a problem for me, as most of my measuring cups already had the measurements for ml as well as cups ” and I found that around 200ml of juice works out at just less than 1 cup ” but if you don’t already have one that measures ml, I’d recommend getting a Pyrex measuring cup. If you’re also worried about making a mess with your blender then you’ll really enjoy the section on keeping it clean ” it’s certainly saved me a lot of effort!

The best thing about choosing to buy an eBook was that I could download it instantly! This means you can buy it whenever you want and you’ll get it right there and then! Not to mention the fact that you’ll also be sent those four great bonuses: Amazing Vegetable Variations (recipes that are really popular with families), 101 Amazing Ways to Stay Healthy, The Amazing Family Cookbook (including over 500 recipes with low fat and low sugar), and Amazing Fast Food Facts.

Id definitely recommend the Amazing Smoothie Recipes eBook to anyone on a diet or wanting to learn more about improving their health!

Whether you are trying to lose some weight, or just become a little more healthy, the Amazing Smoothie Recipes ebook is a great way of getting started. You can also try reading my own weight loss diary at Diet Smoothie.net

Party Food 101

No matter the season, there is always time for a party! Great parties need great food. One of the biggest issues when you are planning a party is how much food do you really need. There is a good general rule of thumb to follow when you are trying to feed a crowd.

Are you wanting to have a formal supper or finger food? This can change the amount of food you need. For a large meal, the general consensus is to plan for a pound and a half of edibles per person. If you want finger food, you can reduce that to around a pound per person. You may need to adjust this if your friends are big eaters or small eaters. You know them best!

For appetizers, the average guest tends to eat 5 pieces per hour for the first two hours of a party and three per hour for each hour longer that the party lasts. Following this average, you would need about 130 appetizers for a group of ten people hanging out for three hours. If you are also planning a meal, you can cut back on the appetizers a bit.

If you are planning to make fondue, which is again gaining in popularity, you can figure that a single person can eat about 20 1-inch cubes of bread. This is about half of a standard loaf of French bread. One person would also consume about 6 to 8 ounces of meat, 4 to 6 ounces of cheese, 6 ounces of seafood, 6 to 8 ounces of veggies or fruit, or 4 cookies. It is better to prepare too much than not have enough to feed your guests.

You can figure that one gallon of punch will give ten people three 4-ounce servings. If you know your guests will drink more than this, prepare more. If you are planning on serving alcoholic beverages, consider that most guests will drink two per hour for the first couple of hours and then one per hour after that. Stock up accordingly, including mixers, wine, or beer, depending on what you plan to serve.

Do not forget the ice! Plan on 1 pound of ice per person if you are serving iced drinks. In the summer weather, you will need to increase your amount of ice per person to keep them cool and refreshed. Do not skimp on the napkins or small appetizer plates.

You will want to plan on at least a couple of easy party appetizers to start off any party. Your guests will enjoy having some light snacks even if you are planning a meal. You can make many appetizers ahead of time so you are not too rushed. Planning your party should begin several weeks in advance and preparation can begin earlier in the week.

If your party is more spur of the moment, you can always keep a few easy appetizer recipes on hand with some basic ingredients. You will be able to whip some up quickly as everyone arrives.

Making straightforward Superbowl party recipes means that you can prepare all your munchies well in advance and relax with your guests when the game starts. There are lots of Superbowl recipes to choose from and meat munchies, like chicken wings, ribs and hot dogs, are always incredibly popular. You will find hundreds of quick straightforward appetizers at our site to give you some more ideas.

Coffee Pods

Before you can begin making coffee with coffee pods, and before you should even think about purchasing your coffee pods, you’ll want to acquire a coffee pod brewer. Some research on your part will be necessary as not all coffee pods are exactly the same. There are various different sizes of pods, and some brewers allow more than one pod to be used at once. The best way to determine the correct pod for your brewer, or brewer for your coffee pods, is to check your brewer’s capacity against the coffee pods grams per pod.

Different Sized Coffee Pods

Most coffee pods brewers can hold pods between four and nine grams, though there are many that can hold pods that contain up to twelve grams of coffee. In some cases, it is required to pre-infuse the larger coffee pods. Although pre-infusing sounds very technical, it’s really nothing more than wetting the pod before placing it in the brewer. It is generally impossible to tell just by looking whether your pod will fit your machine. This is because all coffee pods currently on the market are between 55 and 61 mm, which is not easily discerned by the human eye.

The T-Disc and K-Cup

Very different than coffee pods, T-Discs and K-Cups are also floating around on the market. There are not an “open format” like the coffee pods; not just anyone can make them. Producers need permission and a license, which means selection of T-Discs and K-Cups is very limited in comparison to coffee pods. Strangely, T-Discs are also not Kosher.

Tassimo T-Discs

The only device that you can use a T-Disc in is the Tassimo Hot Beverage Machine. The Tassimo Hot Beverage Machine can only use T-Discs. Although this limits your options, there are some advantages to T-Discs over other types of coffee brewing methods. A T-Disc for cappuccino, for example, will actually be a package with separate groups of discs; some will contain milk, and some will contain coffee grounds. Although not quite as quick or convenient as coffee pods, this method does avail the Tassimo system the flexibility to offer latte, cappuccino, and even hot chocolate, complete with frothy toppings, in addition to your standard cup of coffee.

Which Is Best For You?

Consider the differences between T-Discs, K-Cups and coffee pods before you pick your medium and do some research on exactly what you plan to brew so that you know your new machine will match up. Remember that T-Discs are available only from Tassimo, and K-Cups can be used only in a select group of machines. Also, although you can make your own coffee pods, it’s not so easy with T-Discs and K-Cups.

Grape Trellis - What is it!

The best thing about growing grapes is that they grow on a vine, with the help of a trellis. Because of this, space is never a problem and people can grow either in a vineyard, or in their very own backyards.

The Trellis

Since vines are not strong enough to maintain their weight, the trellis provides them with a surface to hold on to. Trellises exist in various styles: from beautiful decorative trellises to more functional do-it-yourself- structures. The array of shapes and sizes also varies, where the grape trellis can be made out of iron, pretreated wood, PVC pipes, aluminum or stainless steel ” and they can be homemade or store-bought. Even though grapevines climb on a trellis and are suitable for growing in yards, you will still need a space of about 8 ft by 8 ft for one single vine.

Trellis Construction Rules

The trellis should always be built before the grapevine is planted. In general, a shorter trellis is more suitable to endure colder weathers, while higher trellises maximize sunlight exposure in warm climates. A short trellis will have posts of an average of 3 ft in height, while a large trellis usually has posts 8 ft tall.

Trellis Location

Determining where your trellis will be located must be planned before you begin placing the poles. When planting the posts, make sure they are a minimum of 2 ft into the ground, for optimum support. Many recommend cementing the post into the ground to ensure that it will stay in place, while others suggest securing the post with the use of catch wires that are anchored to the ground, or to a second, smaller pole. Trellis posts must be planted 8ft apart, with two rows of galvanized wire running between posts. One must run along the bottom of the poles ” at least 3 inches from the ground- and one must run along the top of the poles. You can staple them to the posts by using a staple gun.

Building The Trellis

Once you have mapped out the grapevines location, and had your trellis built you can begin digging the holes for its installment. Posts must be an average of 2 ft into the ground. You can either secure them in place using sand and cement, or you can tie them down to the ground using catch wires, Posts are set at a distance of 8ft apart, with two rows of galvanized steel running between the poles. One runs along the top of the posts, and one along the bottom, securing them together. You can use a staple gun to staple the wires in place.

When your grapevine begins to grow, it will climb along these two wires on the trellis. At the beginning, the vine will need your help to grow onto the right places ” an aspect that we will later discuss on my grape pruning section.
