Wine Food Pairing – What About Champagne Soup

Consider combining wine food pairing in just one bowl.

When the heat and humidity start to get you down in the dog days of summer, what better way to bring back your cheer than to host a quick get together? Try chilled champagne soup and sweet from the tree, sliced mangoes. Nothing perks up a crowd faster than this icy cold sparkling treat. Call all your friends and tell them to put on their party hats and dancing shoes!

I like to use Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut. It is a crisp, dry sparkling wine that has a soft, smooth flavor and pairs beautifully with the juiciness of the sweet ripe mango. The Freixenet also works great with ripe, full flavored peaches as the fruit addition. Serve this wonderful soup into cut crystal bowls and it will knock your guests socks off! YIKES!!

Pair the soup with warm from the oven croissants and fresh creamery butter, what could be better. Many times I cheat with the croissants and use the dough from the tube and just pop them in the oven as the guests arrive . The best part is they only take a few minutes to bake.

Would you like your guests to think you spent hours preparing this little get together? Arrange some fresh cut flowers in an heirloom vase as a centerpiece and bring out your favorite cloth napkins. This is a classic look, but takes almost no time to prepare and I will never tell!

How about dessert? Summertime always offers up such terrific bounty when it comes to fruit and berries. Big, juicy strawberries dipped into a melted healthy dark chocolate are always a winner. Be sure to melt your chocolate carefully in a water bath. Perhaps you are even lucky enough to have one of those new chocolate fountains, they work great, too. I always leave the stem on for added color and it also makes a great handle on the berry to keep your fingers from getting burned! Let the berry cool off on waxed paper and then present them to your guests on your favorite platter. This is a super, make ahead, dessert that can be done a day ahead and stored in the refrigerator.

Try pairing your chocolate strawberries with a bold red wine. I love the wines from Chile and I chose Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot. The dark chocolate will bring out the best of the wine and vice versa. Decant your wine early and allow it to breathe. ENJOY!

Now as your party starts to wind down, you will want to offer your guests a cup of coffee. The Austrians invented a coffee beverage called a melange. This drink is served throughout Austria in all the coffee houses and is a fifty-fifty mix of coffee and milk with a foamy top. Traditionally, they serve this with a glass of sparkling mineral water on the side. Add sliced lemons on the table for those that like a bit of citrus with their water and you have a delightful end to a wonderful party. Remember to get out all your fancy glasses and crystal, they do not even have to match to make it festive! Garage sales are a terrific resource for items like this.

Most health experts contend that the significance of excess weight is more than cosmetic as it takes a huge toll on a person’s physical health. The annoying part is that natural weight maintenance is not difficult to understand but overweight people choose to ignore this.

Some people worry about what foods they will eat on a natural weight loss program but it is just a case of having a combination of, protein, carbohydrate and fiber. A meal such as this would be something like a baked potato (complex carbohydrate), the fiber is vegetables and protein is a lean cut of meat.

Health experts say that dietary fat promotes weight gain because it is a very dense source of calories and you store those calories as body fat easier than calories from other sources. Although completely false, the perception is that you can basically eat exactly what you want provided it is fat-free but there are still calories in the food which can easily be converted to body fat. This is a trap that many people fall into and forget it’s about eating from the correct food groups, and if you have to snack make it a small healthy one.

Health experts say it would be better to try eating every three to four hours, which may mean a nutritious low-fat snack between lunch and dinner. Natural weight loss is a lifestyle choice not a fad; hence, it takes a great deal of determination, self-control, and discipline to achieve your ideal weight.

Lose Weight Really Fast

Being thin never used to be a problem for me. I loved being a petite blonde weighing in at 119 pounds and easily fitting into a size 6. I was even too small to give blood when I was in college. I didn’t weight enough!

Well, those days are long gone. I have children and weigh about 150 pounds. And you won’t be shocked to know that my height hasn’t changed any! So what does that mean? I’m over weight.

I have continually looked for ways to lose weight really fast. I struggle with this every single day of my life. I want to lose weight quickly how do I do it? I do not have time to work out for an hour or hour and a half a day 4 – 5 days a week. I wish I did – but I don’t. I spend my time working and taking care of my household. When my kids are in school I’m working and when they are out of school, I’m taking care of them. So when do I go to the gym? I go in the 40 minute time frame I have between dropping my kids off at school and starting work at 9am. Not much time is it? That includes driving time.

So how do I lose weight really fast? I cannot endorse programs that are going to send my body into shock such as diet pills or fasting. No way. Besides – these types of programs are not going to provide easy ways to keep the weight off. I understand that if I’m bringing in more calories than I burn through daily exercise, I am not going to lose any pounds – let alone lose weight really fast.

I really have a hard time focusing on extreme calorie reduction. I don’t sit around eating cookies and ice cream all day, but I do enjoy eating. Extreme calorie reduction tactics are not only difficult for me mentally and emotionally, but they also physically slow down my metabolism. So this is not a good long-term approach. It seems as though my focus should really be on burning more calories than I’m taking in.

Now, putting ideas and thoughts down on paper are one thing, but actually accomplishing it is a whole other ballgame. What can I do on a daily basis to help me lose weight really fast?

Ok, so I need to build muscle. That’s an established and well documented fact. Muscle increases your metabolism and helps to burn fat. This is a good step in the right direction to lose weight.

But, as I’ve stated before, I am not able to live in a gym. I have a family to care for and I have to work every weekday. So how do I accomplish it all? How do I drop this weight – and lose weight fast enough that I do not become discouraged in the process. How do I lose weight really fast?

Why do some people say that it is not advisable to cook basil?

Basil is a fragile herb which suffers some loss of flavor when subjected to heat or drying. In most recipes, you can minimize the loss of flavor by adding basil near the end of the cooking time. However, it is most flavorful when used fresh, or as a garnish added after cooking, as in the recipe for Grilled Vegetable Salad below. The salad is served at room temperature, and is delicious as a starter with some crusty bread to mop up the dressing. Grilled Vegetable Salad with Basil Recipe Serves: 4 as a starter Preparation time: 45 minutes Cooking time: 50 minutes Ingredients: 1 red pepper 1 yellow pepper 1 eggplant 1 head fennel 2 red onions 4 tablespoons olive oil 1 clove garlic, finely chopped Sea salt and black pepper For the Dressing: 3 tablespoons virgin olive oil 2 teaspoons white wine vinegar To garnish: 6-8 leaves basil Method: Preheat the grill for 10 minutes. Quarter the peppers and scrape out the seeds. Put the wedges under the grill, skin side up, until the skins have blackened and blistered evenly all over. Let them cool slightly, peel off the skin then set aside. Cut the eggplant lengthways in 1 cm slices, leaving the skin on, and brush with olive oil. Grill until golden brown, turning once. Drain on kitchen paper towels. Cut the fennel lengthways in 1 cm slices. Brush one side with oil and grill until colored, then oil the other side and grill that. Peel the onions, cut each one into four wedges and brush with oil. Grill until soft and well browned. Arrange all the vegetables on a flat dish and scatter the chopped garlic over them, then season with salt and plenty of pepper. Mix the oil and vinegar together and spoon over.
