Victoria Doramus’s Addiction And Journey To Recovery

Victoria Doramus’s battle with drug addiction has been a long one, and the journey to recovery has been longer. At only twenty-six years old, Victoria was at what seemed the top of her career to many. What they did not know was life was slowly becoming unbearable for her. It was then, in 2011 she first checked into rehab and was there for forty-five days.

But one thing was evident, she had not yet fully comprehended her condition nor was she aware of how to deal with it. Soon after leaving rehab, she was back at it again, now an addict of Adderall and cocaine.

She tried to put whatever she learned in rehab into practice by trying to change environments and those around her but to no avail. She checked into rehab for the second time in 2016 and this time around spend sixty days in there.

At the time, her mom was ailing of cancer, and she wanted to show her she was capable of riding herself of this deadly disease. As fate would have it, she went back to her old ways, now taking a bottle of amphetamine a day to stay high.

Consumer trends expert Victoria Doramus ruined all her relationships, had no place to stay and during Thanksgiving of 2016 was arrested. With no one to run to her aid, she checked into another rehab, Burning Tree, where she was involved in a twelve step program each lasting a month.

The University of Colorado graduate in Journalism and Communication has worked with different media companies including Mindshare, Creative Arts Agency and Trendera. She has even worked as a personal assistant to the movie producer, Peter Berg. Victoria also published several articles and was involved in researching some books.

It seems third time worked its miracles. After the program, Victoria Doramus worked as a waiter to raise money to see her mom. With her newfound energy to live, she is fully involved in giving back to the society and is a volunteer with Amy Winehouse Foundation, Women Prison Association, Room to Read, and Best Friends Animal Society.

It is helping dramatically to boost the economy and bringing in new companies in the region.

Many new start-ups have successfully surfaced here in the past few years, and all these points indicate that the real estate market here is going to grow further in the years to come. There are many new residential complexes and other developments that are in progress across the city, and realtors are finding it hard to meet the growing demand for modern apartments and condominiums. Todd Lubar said that the people with ready investment should not worry about their finances in the Baltimore’s real estate market as it would provide good returns in the future.

Larkin and Lacey Vocalize Problems With New H-1B Visa Restrictions

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin of the Frontera Fund say President Trump’s latest war on H-1B and student worker visa’s will really hurt US companies that depend on foreign IT professionals.

The president’s goal is to reduce the number of visas for foreign employees and get government agencies to hire more US workers, especially for government contracts.

According to President Trump, these programs, that were put in place in the 1990s, reduces American salaries and restricts Americans’ access to the tech industry. Right now H-1B visas are granted in a random lottery, up to 85,000 per year, for three years. The average salary of foreign workers with H-1B visas average about $80,000, and the highest percentage are from India, then China. The US Citizenship and Immigration Service says the number of applicants for H-1B visas have already dropped from 235,000 in 2016 down to 199,000.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin point out how large companies that rely on foreign tech workers, like Facebook and Google will stumble if they’re workforce must leave. “Think of the ramifications if your valued workers must leave the US,” says Michael Lacey. “Don’t think these companies will just replace senior engineers.”

Many people think this will force more companies to simply outsource work, which hurts the United States even more.

During the election campaign, Trump had voiced his opposition to the use of H-1B visas, claiming that they were used by large multinationals to hire and bring to the United States foreigners who worked for lower wages than their US counterparts.

However, high-tech companies, like Google, insist that they need to hire foreign personnel because they cannot find enough qualified US personnel with the required technology skills.

“The Trump administration is going to overhaul the entire process for any foreign worker,” says Jim Larkin. The administration is also targeting spousal and student work permits.

Currently, there are a range of permits for foreign workers that allow them to work in the US, like students with F and M visas are allowed to work while attending school, and after graduation, they can remain in the US to perform internships. The Department of Homeland Security is also amending rules that allow spouses of H-1B visa holders to work.

The Frontera Fund, founded by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin in 2015, advocates for civil and human rights, and promotes public awareness on various issues.

Based in Arizona, the organization works to protect migrant and foreigners civil rights, and provides financial support to pave the way for lobbying.

Inspired by Larkin and Lacey’s own fight against Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s unlawful discrimination, the Frontera Fund was established from a multi-million dollar settlement the men won.

Today their organization leads a parallel fight for civil and human rights, and to change discriminatory efforts in this country.

In not only United States, people across the world are showing growing amount of mistrust in their government that they help elect. It is mostly because of the corruption and the misuse of power by those who are heading the government and walking the corridors of bureaucracy.

Poor and middle-class people have almost no say and unfortunately, the divide between the rich and the poor has been widening at the same pace at which the world is transforming. It is an issue that needs close attention and seeks corrections, but there is very little that is being done in this area.

The underprivileged section of the society looks up to the government and the people who are capable of helping them, but the fact that millions are starving and thousands are dying each day due to lack of food, clean water, and medical supplies, highlights the truth of the society that is hidden in plain sight of the regular people living in metropolitan cities and other urban areas across the globe.

The human rights violations, however, are not limited to the underprivileged section of the society.

And, the evidence of it was given by the recent arrest of Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey by the infamous Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio. They were both arrested on October 18th, 2008 by Maricopa County Sherriff, Joe Arpaio.

These two journalists were taken from their homes in the middle of the night and taken to jail after they revealed the existence of grand jury proceedings that was supposed to get reporters notes on articles covering the sheriff.

They later sued the county, won the case and were offered 3.75 million dollars as a settlement which they used to co-found Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund.
