Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund Helping the Hispanic Community in Arizona to Fight for their Rights

The world as we know it has been undergoing a massive transformation and the pace of this change have been unprecedented in the last couple of decades.

And, even though the use of technology and other positive aspects that have been taking the world forward and aiding the progress of human civilizations, there are cruel realities of the world we live in that are being ignored or side-stepped by the majority of the capable human population.

In not only United States, people across the world are showing growing amount of mistrust in their government that they help elect. It is mostly because of the corruption and the misuse of power by those who are heading the government and walking the corridors of bureaucracy.

Poor and middle-class people have almost no say and unfortunately, the divide between the rich and the poor has been widening at the same pace at which the world is transforming. It is an issue that needs close attention and seeks corrections, but there is very little that is being done in this area.

There are countless organizations and thousands of volunteers and charity workers that are working across the globe to help the people in need and rehabilitate those who are the victims of human rights abuses, violence, medical epidemic, lack of food, education, shelter, and more. The underprivileged section of the society looks up to the government and the people who are capable of helping them, but the fact that millions are starving and thousands are dying each day due to lack of food, clean water, and medical supplies, highlights the truth of the society that is hidden in plain sight of the regular people living in metropolitan cities and other urban areas across the globe.

The human rights violations, however, are not limited to the underprivileged section of the society.

And, the evidence of it was given by the recent arrest of Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey by the infamous Maricopa County Sheriff, Joe Arpaio. These were the newspapers that reported corruption in the administration of Joe Arpaio and the correctional facility he managed, especially the atrocities he inflicted upon the Hispanic Community.

It was something that probably didn’t go down well with Joe Arpaio, who arrested Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey on unconstitutional grounds late at night from their homes.

However, due to the national outrage, they were released, and all charges against them were dropped within a day. It was a direct blow to the First Amendment Right and the liberty of people and media for freedom of expression and speech.

After their release, the legal battle pursued between Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey and the Maricopa County, in which Larkin and Lacey won the case.

They were even given the settlement amount of $3.75 million that allowed them to create Frontera Fund that is used today to promote freedom of speech, freedom of expression, migrant rights, and more.
